Back in the Game

And so we have a new beginning with a new company. Token Resistance will be my brand going forward for gaming supplies and also my design work. I’ll try to keep people up to date with what I’m working on through this blog, as well as using it to show off various wargaming projects and as a platform to write reviews and articles that interest me.

Right now focus is on a game I have been refining for many years now. An entirely non-random science fiction skirmish wargame titled ‘Sunburn’. It’s a pretty unique design. Work is just finishing up on that now and the game should be available soon. The image above is a set of concept sketches Matthew Street has been working on for the project.

From the Introduction:
“Somewhere – somewhen – there exists a perfect, gigantic metal sphere surrounding a small star. On the inside surface of this sphere there are doorways; portals to myriad different places and times – which seem to shift infrequently according to no discernible pattern. Nobody is sure how or when the sphere was created, and nobody knows where it is located or if all the places it opens to are even in the same universe. Some believe it exists at the end of time. Some at the beginning. Others that it doesn’t really exist in time – as we know it – at all.

Conditions inside the sphere seem to vary to approximate those of the locations the doorways open into. Atmosphere, gravity and air pressure all designed to seemingly encourage visitors. Buildings of dizzying variety dot the surface; both new constructions built by current explorers and ancient ones built by various unknown prior inhabitants. Beneath the surface service passages and crudely hacked tunnels worm their way through the metal shell of the sphere, but none seem to reach the outer surface. Although there does seem to be some kind of protection field, radiation from the star does cause constant communication difficulties and too much exposure can cause medical problems for many would-be explorers.

Countless gangs, armies, expeditions, explorers, salvage teams, archaeologists, scientists, priests, shamans, traders and mercenaries all come here through the doorways. They come for information, trade, loot or curiosity; forming communities, camps, factions and coalitions. One thing is as certain as a case of sunburn here; there is always conflict.”

Also in the works is a second, revised edition of Backswords & Bucklers – our fantasy Elizabethan role-playing game of Tavern Trawling. The original was a fairly popular (at one point) OSR game, but I never managed to release the planned series of expansions. This new ‘Revised & Compleat’ edition uses an entirely new core system and includes all the expansion content in one volume. It still manages to be an easy to run, player-led game with plenty of resources to get your games going.

Alongside this we have a range of tokens and affordable pre-painted mdf terrain kits coming out.
